About the Celtic Ash Tree: Ash trees are giant trees capable of reaching over 200 feet in height. The Celts believed they were sacred trees with the power of enchantment, making them a prized wood for wands and the handle of a witch's broom. Ash trees were so revered that they were used as three of the five of the markers to establish the five provinces in ancient Ireland.

The wood of ash trees burns so hot that it was a favorite of Druids for rituals and other ceremonies. It has long been used to make everything from wagons and carriages to the handles of axes and hammers. The ash tree was even nicknamed the “Widow Maker” because of its use in the handles of swords and other weapons.

Ash trees were believed to have a wide variety of medicinal uses – rheumatism, warts, constipation, and getting rid of parasites. Leaves were even placed under pillows to give one prophetic dreams while sleeping.

Celtic Animal Symbol: Sea Horse
