Guide to Celtic Astrology, Meanings and Symbols

When looking at the meanings and symbols of Celtic Astrology, it's important to remember that the Celts developed their astrological system long before classical astrology began.

Nature was very important to the Celts. They had a great understanding of it, and it formed the basis of their beliefs and culture. Everything from their day-to-day lives to their legal system was tied to nature. Nature even played a key role in Celtic astrology, forming a basis for its meanings and symbols.

The Celts studied the movement of the planets, the seasons, and the trees and animals around them. They took what they learned and combined it to form their astrological system. For example, Celtic animal signs are based on the characteristics of animals, their behavior, and how they connect with people.

Thus, Celtic astrology is based on an understanding of how all aspects of life are interrelated.

Just as classical astrology would say that a person born at the beginning of December falls under the sign of Sagittarius and the influence of the planet Jupiter, Celtic Astrology would say that a person's birth is influenced by the season, animal sign, and tree sign they were born under. In the case of someone born in early December, the Celts would say the person falls under the dominion of Winter, the Black Horse, and the Elder tree.

When you realize that a person is a part of nature, a nature that extends into the night sky, you begin to grasp the full meaning and symbolism of Celtic astrology.

As you study Celtic astrology meanings and symbols, remember that it is about how people are connected to nature. People don't dominate nature, but are influenced by it.
