About the Celtic Willow Tree: In Celtic mythology, the willow was sacred to the Triple Goddess. In their creation story, the willow's branches contained two scarlet sea-serpent's eggs which contained the Sun and Earth. The universe was hatched from these eggs, connecting the willow with the beginning of life. Just as Adam was the first human in the Christian religion, the willow was the first tree of Creation to the Celts.
The willow tree has a long history connecting it to enchantment. The word “witch” is derived from the name of the willow, as it was the willow that witches used to worship. Willow wood was and still is used in magical ceremonies to increase psychic abilities.
Willow trees are usually found in wet areas, and its this connection to the water that has long associated willows with the moon. The Druids understood the willows connection to the water and moon, and believed the willow could bring psychic visions and insight into life and the darker aspects of the human psyche.
