We're continuing with our study of Mayan Astrology by looking more closely at Mayan Astrology Signs. It's been some work so far going over the Mayan Astrology Calendar. I hope you've been able to follow along…

…because when it comes to Mayan Astrology Signs, there are a lot of differences from the Western Astrology Zodiac Signs you're used to.

Like Western Astrology, Mayan Astrology names the zodiac signs after nature – plants, animals, and weather (e.g., wind and rain) – but that's where the similarities end.

You see, Mayan Astrology Signs aren't even called zodiac signs…and they have nothing to do with the zodiac. Mayan astrology signs are actually called day-signs…and there are 20 of them.

Why 20 Mayan day-signs?

Well, the Mayan Astrology Calendar divides the year into groups of 20 days. You might want to think of this as a month that's 20 days long for simplicity. Each of these days has its own sign, or day-sign, which works like your typical Zodiac Sign in Western Astrology- revealing your personality and life purpose.

Mayan Astrology Signs and the 4 Directions

We covered this a bit in Mayan Astrology…about how the Mayans assign directions to their astrology signs (north, south, east, and west) instead of the elements (earth, air, water and fire).

Each day-sign is associated with a direction in a repeating order. For example first day – east; second day – north; third day – west; fourth day – south; and starting back over with fifth day…easy, right? This process continues 5 times, until all the day-signs are assigned an element.

Just as we know the sun rises in the east, day-signs associated with the east tend to be initiators filled with creativity and individualism…the west is about coming together and working with others…the north is about being practical and keeping things real…and day-signs tied to the south are about connecting with others and one's emotions.
