Irish history goes back to the ancient Celts. It is from the Celts that the Irish have their language (Irish Gaelic), their culture, their legends, their mythology, and even their astrology. In order to understand Irish Birth Signs, you have to understand the ancestors of the Irish – the Celts.
The Celts lived about 3,000 years ago, with their civilization reaching its peak around 1000 BCE. The leaders of the Celts were the Druids. It was their duty to oversee the laws, philosophy, science, and astrology.
At the foundation of Celtic spiritual beliefs was the idea that trees were sacred, containing great wisdom, knowledge, and spirits called dryads. Everything in Celtic culture was based on trees – their alphabet, their calendar, and even their birth signs.
Each birth sign was named after a tree and was given similar qualities and characteristics. For example, the Elder tree became the symbol for anyone born November 25 – December 22. Just as the Elder tree grows slowly, all people born under this birth sign are thought to grow up slowly too.
These Celtic birth signs are what we know today as Irish birth signs.
