Egyptian Zodiac Sign Osiris

The Egyptian Zodiac Sign Osiris – it's a tale of sadness, mood swings, and misunderstanding. It's a mythology involving dismemberment and resurrection. It's one of the best known stories from Ancient Egypt. How much do you remember from your history classes?

Traditional Dates Based on the Decans: March 1-10 and November 27 – December 18

Date Used After Greek Influence: March 27 – April 25

(For more information on why there are two dates, see: Egyptian Astrology.)

Also known as: Usiris, Asar, Asari, Ausare, Ausir, Usire, and Wesir

Characteristics of the Egyptian Zodiac Sign Osiris: If your sign is Osiris, you're caught between being a fiery personality and having a vulnerable nature. When things get tough, you're not sure what to do. You hesitate between knowing what action to take and when to take it. This can make you misunderstood by others.

It isn't that you don't want to do anything, you just want to make sure you do the right thing. Unfortunately, this can cause you to experience sadness too often. But like Osiris, himself, you do come back up. Your quick wit, generous nature, and vast intelligence save the day.

About the god Osiris: Osiris was the son of Nut and Geb, the husband and brother of Isis, and the father of Horus and Anubis. He gave the Ancient Egyptians laws, and taught them agriculture, how to worship the gods, and to stop eating one another (literally).

Osiris was the king of Egypt when his brother Seth placed him in a coffin, which he then threw into the Nile. Isis recovered the body, and resurrected Osiris long enough to become pregnant with their son Horus. Seth angrily took Osiris and cut his body into fourteen pieces, which Seth hid throughout Egypt. Isis found all the pieces, but one – Osiris' phallus, which was eaten by a fish. Osiris was then resurrected as the god of the Underworld.

It was after this second resurrection that the worship of Osiris increased in Ancient Egypt, becoming one of the largest cults.
